Buying Shoes For Zumba

The best workout can be ruined by inappropriate shoes. This article covers how to select a pair of dance workout shoes that will maximize the workout experience. Learn how to improve posture and protect your feet with the best Zumba shoes for all your dance-style workouts. You can find a review of the shoes I wear for my Zumba workouts at the bottom of this article.

Shoes for Dance Exercise

Zumba, Salsa, and other dance-style workouts are today’s most popular exercise trend. To get the most out of these classes, you need a good pair of shoes. Dance sport workouts put special demands on the feet.

In order to select the best pair of shoes for your dance sport needs, you’ll need to consider several factors. How often do you work out? Do you want a pair of shoes specifically for dance sport, or do you want the shoes to be able to do double duty for another sport like racquetball? Do you have any special concerns with your feet or posture?

First, we’ll look at frequency of workout. If you go to class several days a week, you’ll probably want a pair of shoes that you use exclusively for dance sport. In order to keep the shoes in good condition and keep your feet healthy, exercise shoes need time to air thoroughly between uses.

For frequent use, a lighter, specialized dance sneaker has significant advantages compared to a heavy cross-trainer. Heavy shoes can cause fatigue and hinder your workout. Dance sneakers also have special features such as re-enforced toe caps to help with advanced dance moves.

For a less frequent dance sport training schedule, cross-trainers are an affordable and practical solution, especially if you are planning to use them for another sport.

Note that some studios will not allow students to wear shoes in class that have been worn outside. Running shoes that have been worn on outdoor tracks or on the street or cross trainers that have been worn on outside courts might not be allowed in the dance sport studio. When in doubt, consult with the teacher or studio owner.

Ideally, dance sport shoes should be light, comfortable, well padded, and supportive for lateral movement. Posture issues such as over-pronation in the foot, leg length differences, or back or joint pain can be helped with shoe inserts.

Consult with a podiatrist or other medical specialist for help with these issues and any other foot pain. Several companies sell over the counter athletic insoles to help keep your feet well-cushioned and your shoes healthy.

Dance sneakers can be purchased at dance supply stores or ordered online from dance supply outlets. When ordering online or by catalog order, it’s important to double-check the sizing to make sure you get a good fit. Some dance shoes are sized differently than street shoes.

This information will be included in the ordering instructions. A good pair of dance sneakers or cross trainers will greatly enhance your workout and encourage happy feet.

My Zumba Shoes

These are the Zumba shoes I purchased and use in my zumba classes every week.

Of course, they had to have pink on them since this is my favorite color. I'm as girlie as it gets!

I bought these at SportCheck and they are made by Adidas.

They weigh practically nothing and have a mesh covering which allows the air to circulate. They also have good traction as you can see from the photo.

They also have 3-D cushion and Torsion System. This is a built-in system that supports the midfoot while performing excessive motions.

I love these shoes because it feels as though you are wearing nothing. I do suggest you buy a half size bigger since they are a bit narrow towards the middle of the shoe.
